January is Re-Charter Month

Every Unit should have their re-charter process completed this month and the re-charter packet and fees turned into the Council by the end of the month.

There has been confusion about the Quality Unit Awards.

For 2007 patch the Council has decided on the 2007 Council Quality Unit Standards form. The form is filled out based on meeting the standards during 2006 and should be turned in with your re-charter packet this month.

For the following years, BSA is moving to the Centennial Quality Awards. There is a great deal of information at http://www.scouting.org/awards/centennial/index.html

Some key points:

	The award is being separated from the re-chartering process (I believe all that means is that the due dates no longer correspond with the re-charter dates but rather start with a commitment in February and are checked in November to see if the commitment was met.)
	There are new Centennial Quality Unit forms which are due before 2/15/07. These forms are basically a promise to fulfill the requirements for a Quality Unit Award in 2007. I would recommend you turn these in with your 2007 re-charter package. Even though they are not due until 2/15/07, if turned in with the re-charter package you will not miss the date or need to make another trip to BCS.
	After October 31, 2007 and before December 31, 2007 the forms will be used to see if your unit met their goals and if so your unit will receive the the new Centennial Quality Unit Award. I would recommend you keep a copy of your 2007 Centennial Quality Unit Form to refer to through out the year and to submit at the end of the year to get the award.
